Bio center

Grape King’s Bioengineering Center was established in 1991 and now operates as a research and development center with production capabilities. It concentrates on key component development and application of Grape King Bio’s own raw materials. In recent years, the Center has cooperated actively with national academia and research institutions. This collaboration focused on product development, functional verification and process improvement. Grape King Bio has been granted eight DoIT (Department of Industrial Technology, Ministry of Economic affairs) and IDB-supported (Industrial Development Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs) scientific projects and over 20 joint academia-industry research projects from NSC (National Science Council), Council of Agriculture and Ministry of Education. We now have one patent in the United States, five patents in China and eleven patents in Taiwan for Antrodia cinnamomea, Antrodia salmonea, Lactic acid bacteria and antibiotics.

Our Bioengineering Center presently holds a fermentation production capacity of 281 tons, which is the largest in Taiwan. This is made up of a 2 ton, three 5 ton, a 10 ton, three 20 ton, three 40 ton and a 50 ton. There are also pilot fermentors which make up the overall production capacity of 47 fermentors. In 2015 the construction of our second fermentation facility was started at Longtan branch of Hsinchu Science Park and is expected to be completed in 2017.Downstream manufacturing facilities include membrane concentration systems, freeze-dryers, centrifuges, cold fluid bed dryers and pressure filters to provide Grape King Bio, Pro-Partner Ltd. and Shanghai Grape King with ingredients for functional foods. Our most distinguished functional food product since 1997 is Ganoderma King which was introduced at NT$ 10 per capsule and overtook the market of Ganoderma. In 1999, we produced the world’s first Antrodia cinnamomea mycelium and launched “Antrodia King” which rapidly gained popularity. The Bioengineering Center prides itself as having the largest and best Antrodia production facility in Taiwan. In 2015 Grape King Bio became the world’s first company to mass produce Erinacine A, targeting the growing neurodegenerative disease market.

R&D Department

Lactic acid bacteria, Antrodia cinnamomea, 995 Nutrition Aqua, Ganoderma lucidum, and Hirsutella sinensis are Grape King Bio’s main biotechnology products. While other fermented mushroom mycelium products include Cordyceps sinensis, Agaricus blazei, Phellinus linteus, Inonotus obliquus, Antrodia salmonea, Armillaria mellea, Coriolus versicolor, Grifola frondosa, and Hericium erinaceus. Presently, bio products and health supplements dominate Grape King Bio’s turnover by more than 90%. We currently have eight TFDA certified health foods such as “Ganoderma King”, “Antrodia King”, “Probiotic King”, “Probiotic-LGG”, “Probio-Intestine”, “Proteck Stomaker”, “Probiotics & Prebiotics Plus”, and “GlukoAid”. In addition, “Antrodia King”, “Antrodia Aqua”, “Proteck Stomaker”, and “Premium Ganoderma King” have all been awarded with National Biotechnology and Medical Care Quality Awards. In 2015, our patented active ingredients from Antrodia cinnamomea were awarded with three Gold Medals at the 2014 26th ITEX (International Invention Innovation & Technology Exhibition) in Malaysia ,at the 2015 30th American INPEX (Invention & New Product Exposition) and at the 2015 Taipei International Invention Show & Technomart. Also, in the same year Cordyceps we awarded a Bronze Medal at the 2015 Taipei International Invention Show & Technomart.

We also develop health and beauty products such as Cordyceps sobolifera mycelium which can protect the kidneys, Hericum erinaceus mycelium to stimulate NGF (nerve growth factor), Lignosus rhinoceros to treat asthma, Lepista nuda mycelium to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and have effects on UV-induced damage in skin cells, and Ectoine-producing marine bacterium, etc.

The Bioengineering Center welcomes OEM and ODM orders for:
1. Mushroom mycelia (Ganoderma lucidum, Agaricus blazei, Antrodia cinnamomea, Cordyceps sinensis and Coriolus versicolor)
2. Probiotics (Enterococcus, Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus, Pediococcus, Streptococcus, Saccharomyces and Clostridium)
3. Animal feed supplements (Yeast, Rhizopus, Bacillus and Recombinant protein)
4. Microbiological products such as biological fertilizers (Phosphate solubilizing bacteria, Nitrogen-fixing bacteria, Compost inoculants and Endophytic bacteria) and biological pesticides (Bacillus subtilis, Streptomyces padanus, Bacillus thuringiensis, Trichoderma sp. and Endophytic bacteria).

The center also offers pilot plants for academic and research purposes as well as internship for college and university students.
